Graphic Novel Genre Project

Graphic Novel Genre Project
This month is about graphic novels - a genre that has really taken off!
A graphic novel is a single story told through the form of words and pictures using
the conventions of a comic book.

Conventions means the way things are generally done…With comic books, conventions
means speech and thought bubbles, rectangles for brief narratives, and, of course, colorful
pictures!)

This genre has exploded in recent years, and there are now graphic novels for all kinds of tastes.
Enjoy...I can’t wait to see what you find!!!

                             Summary
(Somebody) Karana is a very resourceful Native American girl who undergoes
some tragic circumstances that leave her alone on the island where she lives.
She is unbearably sad, living on the island where she lost her brother in a dog attack,
and lost her family and fellow villagers in a conflict with another tribe.

Karana wants to escape the island, but when her boat leaks, she must return.  She concludes
that the island is, after all, her home, so she decides to carry on with her life there.

But, what is standing in her way is a threatening pack of wild dogs. Karana must rid the
island of the threat before she can be at peace.

So, eventually Karana makes peace with the
leader of the dog pack, and she is able to make a home on the island, until help finally arrives.

Somebody - Introduce the main character
Wanted - Tell what it is that the protagonist wants in the story
But - What stands between the protagonist and her goal?
So- How is the conflict resolved?

In order to prepare for the Graphic Novel Book report, you’ll want to take some notes on the
