A Blast from the Past!
The Historical Fiction Assignment
Penny Wax Museum big day is Friday,
March 20, 1:10-2:00 in the gym.
March 20, 1:10-2:00 in the gym.
Task 1: SELECT a good historical fiction book during library time first week in February. (Remember that historical fiction is a book that takes place in a particular time period that is outside of the modern era. In other words, not now. In historical fiction, the time period is very important to the setting, and influences the themes, characters and plot of the story.)
Task 2: First you will READ that book by March 6. (That’s about 5 weeks = about 35 days!)
Task 3: Complete MONOLOGUE in Google Classroom, due March 13.
Task 4: Complete SWBST in Google Classroom, due March 13.
Task 5: In class make a POSTER with the following, due March 18.
- Book title and author AND name of character you’re playing
- Picture to represent the story
- time period or year story takes place
- location where story takes place
- Neatness counts. I will supply the paper.
Task 6: On March 20 we will gather for an exciting “Penny Wax Museum.” You will be asked to be “in character” for this (and therefore in costume). A Penny Wax Museum is when we are in character but standing still like we are a statue in a museum. The school will be invited to visit, or cruise the museum, and when they place a penny in your cup, you will come to life reciting your monologue and telling about the time in which you lived as well as
details about the life of your character, also known as, YOU. This monologue will be written and performed in first person.
